Zauberwelt “Magic World”

The summer program of the German Saturday School of Portland, and sponsored by the German American Society, Zauberwelt is a German language immersion summer camp. Instructors speak German to the students constantly and create a safe, comfortable environment for children to grow their own German skills.

Appropriate for beginners and experienced German learners, Zauberwelt offers two learning formats:

Zaubertag: Our Day Camp for 5–11 year olds is offered at our Southeast Portland location. Have your child spend his or her days cooking, crafting, dancing and singing in German. This year's theme is Märchen und Mittelalter (Fairy Tales & the Middle Ages). We’ll read & act out traditional and modern versions of fairy tales.

Camp runs 9am-2pm, Monday to Thursday. Extended care is available.

Zauberwald: Our week-long Residential Camp in the Columbia River Gorge gives campers an intensive language experience. Children ages 8-15 can begin their language study or advance their skills. Hearing German spoken throughout each day, even during mealtimes and activities, makes this a great way to learn a foreign language. This year's theme is Urwald (Ancient Forest): travel back in time for a taste of life in the forest—with a few modern touches.

Camp runs Sunday to Friday at Menucha Retreat and Conference Center in Corbett, OR.
